Maynooth

Any time we go to the cottage we have to go through random tiny towns. We pass through them, maybe stopping for gas or a snack but that’s all.

This weekend I got the opportunity to explore a little town called Maynooth after we spent the morning on the water cliff jumping,

wake boarding and water skiing.

Mike’s cousins from Europe were with us and wanted to watch the World Cup so we went into Maynooth where a nice man opened up the Arlington Pub below a hostel on the Main Street for us.

Since I’m not really into watching sports on TV, I’ve tried, just can’t sit still through them unless it’s live and there’s popcorn. I grabbed our camera and headed out onto the streets of Maynooth and this is what I found.

Maynooth has the best butter tarts I’ve ever eaten. It’s $2 a tart but worth every penny. We couldn’t help but walk out with a pack of 6 different tarts ranging from coffee to pineapple apricot in flavour.

For a town with few buildings, most of them are antique shops or art galleries. I took a moment to walk to the ones that were all within 3 minutes of each other. Each shop and gallery had it’s own unique characteristics and great customer service.

Small towns can be one of the best parts about road trips. Exploring Maynooth this past weekend got me really excited for our upcoming drive across Canada to Alaska.

Whether you are looking for a day on the water, live music, unique shops, short hikes, long hikes, or something to eat, this area has it all.
